La Garde Freinet, “une ile en foret”, is a picturesque hilltop Provencal village situated in the Massif des Maures. It is reached by winding roads through cork oak forests and chesnut groves . The village is steeped in history - the old fort at the top of the village was reputed to be the Saracen headquaters in the 11th Century. The village has preserved its character with beautiful squares surrounded by old stone houses.

It is an ideal location for a peaceful vacation and many previous visitors return again and again. The location of the village also offers the opportunity to visit the major sites of the French Riviera - by car, horse, bike, boat, or even helicopter.

La Garde Freinet is 25 mins south of the A8 and within easy reach of Nice, Toulon and Marseille airports. The village is easily accessible for the TGV rail stations at Avignon or Aix en Provence. It is one hour’s drive from Cannes and Antibes and two hours from Monaco. The world famous resort of St Tropez is16 miles away and the beautiful Mediterranean beaches of the Cote d’Azur offer a wide variety of marine
sports and summer activities. You can be relaxed or as active as you wish!

The village has several small stores for all necessary provisions, including a bank, pharmacy, post office and local food stores. Highly recommended is the village patisserie for their warm baguettes. The village holds a market every Wednesday and Sunday. There are several excellent restaurants and bars that spill across the flower filled pedestrian streets. In July and August the village swimming pool is open to the public.

The local area is excellent for walking, cycling and other outdoor activities. There is an exceptional variety of walking trails, which lead nature lovers through the beautiful, quiet countryside. There are trails suitable for all levels of fitness. A short, if steep, walk up to the fort reveals a beautiful panoramic view over the hills and plains to the snow capped Alps in one direction and to the sea in the other!
